I had my tonuge pierced yestday! It did hurt slightly but this is different for everyone! Iv had my lower lip pierced twice an it was an altogether different pain. So far, im speaking fine and my tounge is slightly swollen. The only annoying thing is having to eat soft foods.
My advice is go for it, just make sure u go to a clean piercers, look after it properly an take plenty of iboprofen for the swelling.

Does A Tongue Piercing Hurt?

Very Frequently Asked Question

The Answer Is Yes or No If You Enjoy Pain.
I Myself Have 2 Tongue Piercings, 1 Ear, 1 Eyebrow & 1 Nipple. Out Of All My Piercings I Found That My Nipple Hurt A Hell Of A Lot More Than My Tongue

The Actual Thought Of Getting A Needle Through Your Tongue Put Most People Off And People Who Want It Done It Makes Them Work Themselves Up.
If You Have Made You Mind Up And Are Going To Get It Done. Just Follow These Steps

1. DONT Work Yourself Up, Yes Of Corse Its Going To Hurt. But It Will Heal So Dont Worry

2. Check The Piercing Parlor Has Sufficient Steralising Equipment , Is Using 1 use Disposable Needles & Is Clean

3. When You Get It Done Just Think About Something Else Dont Think About The Pain That You Think Your Going To Have. It Will Hurt More If You Work YourSelf Up

4. Keep Your Piercing Clean!, Stay Away From Chlorine And Mouthwash That Contains Alcohol.
Rinse Your Mouth With Diluted Mouthwash 2wice Daily.

5. For The First Couple Of Days You WIll Be UnAble To Eat Solids, Stick To Soups If Possible.

6. DO NOT Drink From A Straw Thinking That Its Going To Help You Swallow. The Suction Of The Straw Can Possibly Strech Your Hole And Cause Your Tongue To Swell More.

I'm actually getting my tongue pierced in two days. I'm so excited! It wasn't hard convincing my mom, either! (I'm 15).

Originally when I asked, she said no, so I left it alone for a few days. After seeing my neighbors, we talked about it again. We found out that her idea of a tongue piercing was a hole in your tongue the size of a straw, because one time she saw a guy with an apparently gauged tongue.

I pulled out a 14 gauge earring and showed her the size, and she said, "Oh, well then go ahead! I don't care." I was so happy. My friends are coming with me, and my best girlfriend is going to video tape it for me, haha. I'm excited/nervous.

I've read a whole bunch of people say that it doesn't hurt at all, but a few of them have said it hurt a little. I guess I'm okay with pain, but it's still nerve-wrecking. Also, I was feeling my tongue, and to the side of where I want it done, I felt sortof a hard line in my tongue. I take it this is the vain. I just hope it doesn't interfere with my piercing!

Also: When is the suggested time after getting it pierced that you can change the piercing to a smaller stick? And how soon after can you change the balls?

Hi there!
I'm actually on my way to the tattoo parlour to get my tongue pierced in about ten minutes - I can't wait! Yeah, I'm a little nervous about the pain but from reading this topic I'm a lot better about it and I'm reassured that it will heal up!
I'll post again here soon to let you all know how it went.
Wish me luck! Big Grin

I had my tongue pierced 8 hours ago. It didn't hurt at all. They froze my tongue first and I didn't even feel the needle go in. My friends who have had it done told me it wouldn't hurt but I was still terrified. It's a bit swollen now and the long bar is getting on my nerves. x

Hi haylie,

I had mine done about 6 months ago. I was worrying about having it done, so I spoke to the people at the piercing place, who asked what other piercings I'd had (I have my belly pierced and used to have several cartilage piercings). They told me that cartilage piercings hurt much more and they were right.

I didn't have my tongue numbed or anything, and people find it hard to believe it didn't hurt but it honestly didn't. Try pressing your tongue really hard between your fingers: that's the sort of sensation. I felt a bit faint afterwards, but literally everything makes me faint!

If you're nervous and want it done, go to someone professional who you trust, bring a friend a long to take your mind off it, get it done as your passing (ie don't make an appointment because then leading up to it you'll just get nervous), and remember it really is one of the least painful piercings.

Hope that helps!
