For you to ask that question shows me that you are really not that type ofperson.

Why do you want to mutilate yourself/ Because that is that it is, self multilation.

You should be happy with who you are and how you look. If your friends are into that thing, then you should ask the question - why?

It really shows how insecure they are about themsleves, that they have do something that others will approve of and make them feel wanted. But it is not the outside that counts, its who you are as a person.

So stay handsome.

Yes tongue piercings do hurt, a bit. I had mine done when i was 15 and now im 22.
After putting some numbing liquid on your tongue, they pierce it ( you cant feel too much, just a sort of pulling sensation) and after a while your tongue will swell ( possibly to twice its normal size). its hard to eat for a week or so, but the swelling goes down and ive never had ANY problems with my piercing. I have NEVER regretted it either.
If you are going to get it done though go to a place where you know that its clean.

Good luck with your decision

Ah yeah... I have my tongue pierced twice!
It wasn't much hassle for long!
It seems to vary between people though!

The first time I got it done, it wasn't a bother! I had very little sweeling and was eating steak fine the next day!

But the second time I got it done was a bit more hassle.
I had a bit of difficulty talking normally since I had a long bar in and it is closer to the tip of my tongue! After about 2 or 3 days though, it was all good!

I've never had problems with my tongue piercings!
Go ahead if it's what you want to do!

In medieval times they would grab the end of a persons tongue with a pair of barbed pliers, stretch it out over a small anvil and bang a nail through it. This was not done to improve the persons facial appearance it was done because it hurt. I have seen the pliers, anvil, hammer and nails in the Tower of London last time I was in England... does that help you put tongue piercing in perspective?

I have my tongue pierced, and although it was a bit sore for a few days after, and I had to eat soft foods, it didn't hurt that much at all. And they didn't even give me the freezing liquid! Just make sure the place you go to get it done is reputable and they sterilize everything they use, even the new bar they will put into your tongue. As long as you do this, everything should be cool! Just one suggestion, get a new toothbrush, and a good antibacterial mouthwash to use for at least a week afterwards. They advised this when I had mine done, it stops infection from any bugs on your old toothbrush and the mouthwash will also help with this and the natural healing process. Another good thing to take is Arnica tablets (Holland and Barrett stock them) as they help the healing too (don't worry, I studied complementary medicine (including use of herbs) and if you follow the dose you'll be fine).

No offence YourComforter, but this person didn't ask for a moral debate on the issue, he asked for the opinions of people who have had it done. I notice your post made a lot of assumptions that his mates were vain and pushing him into it. All he asked was does it hurt. Grow up and stop pushing your beliefs onto others.

I had mine done four days ago. The whole process took only a few minutes and didn't hurt a bit. I couldn't believe how quick and painless it was. You do feel a bit uncomfortable when they pull on your tongue but thats about it. Mine swelled up after about 6 hrs and although I stuck to soup it was a bit sore to swallow. The swelling lasted 2 days going down slightly each day. It is normal to get a furry white tonue and a little yellow fluid coming from wound. So far so good, swelling is gone, as is soreness just can't wait to get a smaller bar put in now.
