i totally agree with you ladies, im glued to telly when homebirth diaries are on. as im having my first homebirth at the beginning of june its nice to be able to see other peoples experiences of it.
as for the ladies who think were mad, just think how many "horror" stories you have have heard about hospitals and then compare them to the "horror" stories you hear about homebirht - there is no comparison. at home its safe,clean,comfortable- you can make food or tea at anytime, wander about form room to room watch telly etc. also you are in control - and if you know your own body then fantastic as it will guide you thru the labour process.
it does upset me when people tell me im mad for having a homebirth - its a natural process not a medical problem, and im not a "dream catcher and lentils" kind of person, im just normal who believes that being at home is the most naturla place on earth to do something so fantastic as having my baby!!
does anyone know if discovery health are looking for new people for this series as i would be interested!!

Hi, probably best you started a new thread, the diaries one seems to be getting unecessarily nasty. I took part in the latest series of HBD & the lady you need to contact is Berny Bos at Goldhawk Media 01273 885633, she's really nice although i don't know if she's making another series. Totally recommend taking part if she is though....we have a wonderful keepsake of our sons birth. Good Luck with your impending birth...is it your 1st? Have you stumbled across the yahoo homebirth forum? You may find that really helpful. HTH Carla X

thanks cardazlily. the other post is getting rather emotionally heated.
i`ll try that number as it would be lovely to have, like you say, a keep sake of my childs birth. how did you find the film crew, was it intrusive?? which lady were you on homebirth diaries??
oh and this is my 2nd baby although my son is 8 1/2 so it was a long time ago and this one feels like my first. although im much more prepared for this and the thought of having a homebirth is a the right choice for me.

Its not intrusive at all. Berny is a 'one man band' as such! She does all the interviewing, filming etc by herself & she's a qualified midwife which i found reassuring. You are right to trust the midwife...thats how i felt, they are not going to advise me to do anything that may put me or my baby at risk. I am Carla, had a straightforward waterbirth, husband a fireman, daughter singing into the camera!!! Are you going for a waterbirth or dryland?! C x

Glad to see a new homebirths link![Wink]
Great to hear you are planning a homebirth. Wishing you all the very best for June. I saw your birth Carla and thought you and your family were lovely and you did fantastically! I really admire all the ladies who shared their lives, labours and births with viewers. I think it will have also gone a really long way to promoting homebirth. I do hope they show this series in America. I am forever horrified by how they treat pregnant and labouring women. May show that there is another way!
Another good site is www.homebirth.org/uk. Some great info there.[Big Grin][Smiler]

that is what i am planning too, i found water very relaxing during my last 2 labours, planning on staying there this time. dont know the sex either, but according to my 3 year old, will be called dash for a boy and violet for a girl [Razzer] children are very interested in being there, after watching the homebirth diaries, know that birth is a normal part of life.

I feel very strongly towards water births...the feeling of stepping in that warm water is amazing. Just a warning there was lots of clearing up & syphoning afterwards though!Miss Hooley... My 4YO Daughter has changed the entire family to Bob, Helen, Violet (am face painting a mask on her everyday!) & Dash...and is constantly hassling me to produce a jack jack!!! Pretty cool names though!!! C x

that is why i am planning it outside, getting dh to build a sheltered deck area, get the patio heater out there, drain right beside it, sorted [Razzer]
the best thing i found about homebirth was just the normality of it. to be able to shut a door and know a stranger isn't going to walk through it, to know that your personal space will not be invaded, and your wishes respected, protcols go out of the window, making it truely evidence based.
i love the mask idea, i can see me getting face paints this weekend [8D]

good luck miss hooley, when are you due?? how fab is that to have an outside birth - i take it its weather pending!!!!!
as for the mess, my md said the best time for "hubby" to clear it up is 10 - 15 mins after birth so that hes still on high and wont really notice all the mess!

i'm due in june, and my deck is sheltered and with the patio heater i am hoping it will be warm enough.
i am just going to let the syphon hose drain it all and then send out dh to finish the clearing up. ime birth doesn't have to be that messy Smiler tempting fate there aren't i??? lol

You should start a new thread...'outdoor births'!! Thats really geting back to nature! Is your garden overlooked? Could give the neighbours something to talk about! My window cleaner came during mine...God Knows what he saw!!!

lol well no, we aren't over looked, but during my last birth, we had more visitors than normal, including the window cleaner and his boss!! lol well ok, so they were friends too [:I] but the whole thing was so relaxed, having people coming and going meant the time passed quicker, also the children around meant a distraction.

it would be lovely to see a pic your outdoor birth setup when its done, i think its a lovely idea, if i did it here my nosy, very loud neighbour would be standing at the sidelines shouting me on like in a football match, shes the kind of lady whos sweet enough just has no idea that its wrong just walk into your house without knocking!!!
so were both due in june, are you ready?? and getting heavy?/ ive kinda had enough now as we knew from day dot, and its seems such a long time and im too impatient to wait to see what im having. also feel like i should be having someone walk behing me holding my bump up!!!
