Ok I have seen things about doola nurses on discovery health...although I'm not sure how to spell it exactly....I would be quite interested to find out how to go about becoming one as it sounds like something i would realy enjoy and get a lot of satisfaction from. I would love to be a midwife but due to some health complications this isnt possible however being a doola (or however you spell it) sounds like something i could do. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on how to get started in this...or at least how to spell the word so i can look itup for myself online thanks katy xxx

Thank you very much ...I had a good look at a site last night and thinking about it ...I think I would need to be a bit older ...I really wanted to be a midwife but I would only be able to work on the post natle ward because i have a kind of arthritis in my hands which would make assiting with deliverys very difficult however i dont think it is possible to qualify to be a post natle midwife....which is why the job of a doula really seemed perfect but as they dont actually have training for the job and i dont have a huge amount of experiance with babies maybe this would be a job i would be better off doing a few decades down the line lol. Thank you anyway for the help though xx

hope you don't mind me posting on here but a friend of mine has just qualified as a Doula, (apparantly to qualify you must be a mother of any age yourself) she did her training through the British Doula agency, the course took place in a London hotel over a weekend I think it was! she gave me a website to look at so thought it might be of use to you www.britishdoulas.co.uk Hope this helps Stacey x

There is a very good organisation called Doula UK who is run voluntarily by doulas for doulas. They run a number of Doula courses www.doula.org.uk
