I"ve had 1 hospital birth and 2 homebirths. My last was witnessed by my 10 year old son. He was absolutely fascinated and as he had been well prepared was not at all phased by watching me in pain. Homebirths are far calmer affairs than hospital births. My son and daughter have an amazing bond with their little brother and I am sure this is partly because he was born at home. I won't go on about all the benefits of hombirth but as I am a Sister in an A&E department I am very well informed about the risks of hospital birth (many people are under the impression that hospital birth is risk-free).
Just as an aside I'm not new age or anything else just an ordinary mum who wants the best thing for her kids and from my experiences homebirth was by far and away the best thing. Don't knock something you obviously know nothing about!Javascript:insertsmilie('[Wink]')

I guess I am just not new-age enough. Give me a hospital bed and all the facilities available as back-up should the unexpected happen.

I am so looking forward to seeing some more homebirths on the TV! Wondered when they would show some more. I agree that there is so much hospitally, traumatic births. I can`t stand Holby, so unrealsitic,at least we will get to see real women giving birth and doing it how nature intended! Well done discovery!

Hi Pootle, the new series will be repeated after the 24th. I'm not sure of the exact dates yet but I think it will be 10am Mon-Friday and 9am Sat & Sun during April.

Regards

Just watched 3 epidsodes back to back and they were fabulous! All very different, but the sense of achievement on the mothers faces says it all!

Well done Discovery Health for showing this series, the filming is excellent, and thank you to the families who agreed to share such a special time with every one else!

I have been watching homebirths diaries and must say how fabulous they are. I am pleased to see that women are being shown REAL birth and the producers haven`t cut out all of the normal noise and emotions of drug free labour. Back to watch some more whilst doing the ironing! Just thought I`d drop a line in the adverts!!![Big Grin]

I've just spent a wonderful morning watching this brilliant programme. I've been pushing with Doris and crying for Wendy.

This is truly the best birth show around, showing women giving birth without intervention unless truly necessary and all in the comfort of their own homes. More of this type of programme please.

I love the fact that they have shown birth 'as it happens' things like shoulder dystocia being dealt with calmly in the home rather than being the precursor for panic buttons and swarms of people barging into the delivery room.

I thought Laura's birth was fascinating - she went from labouring woman to midwife and then back to new mum in minutes!

I have been glued! Just watched Laura, she was incredible. My heart stopped when her baby needed some help but she seemed to switch back into being a midwife! Wow! Watching Doris I thought how well they handled the baby getting stuck and what an amazing woman, what a big gorgeous baby! And I forget the others names but have been deeply moved by it all (have got no work done!!) Do we see any follow ups of how the women and their families are doing? I think that would be really nice.

What a joyous day watching home birth diaries, I have cried several times at the sheer brilliance of womanhood and mother nature.
All the women are fantastic, I will be glued all day even to the repeats!!!!

I thought Laura was brilliant too and it is so nice to see that midwives are just like everyone else when they're in labour [Big Grin]
