Well, I decided to go ahead and try it. My first session is tonight at 5pm. I'm extremely nervous about it. Eeker What if I can't go under? I'm not sure exactly what to expect. My main problem is that my reltionship with food isn't good. I can't stop thinking about it and before I had my gastric band I was a diagnosed as a binge eater which is a recognised eating disorder. Frowner I always though I was just a pig! LOL Big Grin

I'm hoping this is going to help me find what has caused this irrational eating pattern and help me to be less obsessed. I've got problems with my band and want to have it removed but also want to make sure I don't gain the weight back again! I also don't want to live my life constantly battling with diets, counting calories and points etc! Fingers crossed this will work for me!

I'm going to use this thread as my diary.

Wish me luck for tonight! Smiler

Where to start.......?

I went to my hypnotherapy session last night and it was actually more like a councelling session. He asked me lots of questions which I answered, some of them I had no idea what the answer was! I found it a bit draining and almost cried about 3 times. It was quite an eye opener though! A lot of the questions he asked I'd end up with the answer being the scales when he made me expand on my answers. I didn't realise how hung up on the scales I actually am. He told me I'm a pain/pleasure person......I'll do some dieting and exercise then feel good for a bit before seeing a number I don't like on the scales, get upset then throw the towel in and put myself through mental pain and each time I do this it's like tightening a nut and bolt. But I never actually allow myself to feel joy at what I've achieved. Also when I asked why I wanted to lose weight it came down to what other people think of me due to my bullying I had at school.

The scary thing is he was describing things about my personality and my relationships by reading my body language and listening to what I had to say. He would even repeat things I'd actually said back to me a while later. At least I knew he was listening. Smiler

He's going to work on making me accept the way I am and my confidence as well as helping me to lose weight. He also said he can train me so that when I press my index finger and thumb together I want to exercise!

He said he'd work with me only if I threw away my scales, so my hubby is going to put them in the loft where I can't get to them.

My tasks for the next few days before I see him on Tuesday are:

1) Throw away the scales
2) Turn off the tv when I eat
3) Walk up and down the stairs 10 times before I eat my lunch

I've also got to write a diary of the time I get up, go to bed, eat and what I eat and the time I go to sleep.

He's also asked me to think of a food I really couldn't eat if it was put in front of me (no matter how hungry I am). I've thought of roast lamb, cod roe and stilton.

And something I enjoy doing that takes no motivation. My list so far is clothes shopping, reading, watching tv, cuddling my husband. It's really difficult to find things that don't involve food and/or drink!!!!!

I've come out feeling positive and he says there are a lot of things he can do to help me. I'm apparently not the typical type of person he has in so he's got to look through my notes and decide exactly what he's going to do. As I was answering his questions I realised how mixed up I sounded, how fixated on my weight I am and how much other peoples opinions matter to me.

He asked me what my goal size was and I said a size 10. After asking me why it would make me happy and what it would change about me I was completely stumped. He said that it doesn't matter what size I am I will never be happy with myself. That's why he's going to help mne with my body image and confidence (I think).

We'll see how it progresses as the actual hypnotherapy starts. I'm seeing him on Tuesday, then the following week then for one more session but he's not sure how long the gap between the final 2 sessions will be. He also said he'd like to see me for a 30 min session around July to see my progress.

Roll on Tuesday! Big Grin

Well, I had my second hypnotherapy session last night at 4.00. It was interesting. He made an indent in my hand with his fingernail and raised my hand above me. Then he told me to follow it with my eyes without moving my head and then stare at it with my hand still. As I did this my eyes kept going out of focus, became tired and my eyelids began to droop until I closed my eyes. He was talking to me in a calm but somewhat amusing voice. I was told to concentrate on my breathing and as I exhaled to say the word calm to myself without actually say it out loud. My mind drifted a bit but I kept bringing it back.

I can’t remember all the details but he talked about

  • hunger scales and not eating until I’m on a 8 or 9 (1 being absolutely stuffed and 10 being absolutely starving)
  • S & M foods; S being stomach foods and M
  • ]being mouth foods; for instance a mars bar would be a mouth food that tastes great but 30 mins later you’ll be hungry again whereas a chicken salad is a stomach food that will actually satisfy my hunger for longer
  • Smaller portions will now satisfy me
  • , if I’m hungry then I should get a sense of pleasure from it as it means I’m burning my body fat. He said that in todays world we are able to eat within minutes of feeling that first hunger pang. In the past when people felt hungry it was a sign for them to go in search of food and eat once they’d found it and prepared it.
He also talked about how quickly I would start to see my body changing.

It was a strange sensation as I felt incredibly relaxed but aware of everything around me. Afterwards I wasn’t convinced it had worked so I told him and he said that it is very common for people to think that afterwards. I guess only time will tell. What I can say is that I haven’t craved chocolate, cakes or sweets since the session and I didn’t feel the need to eat anything until I was truly hungry. When I did eat I was full very quickly! It was quite strange.

The tasks he’s set me for this week are:

Carry on with food diary and write next to the foods whether they are S or M foods
Swap my knife and fork hands over
Do 20 trips up and down the stairs before I eat lunch
Eat without the tv on (still)
Leave some food on my plate

Only time will tell whether my attitude to food will start to change. I really hope this works for me! As I no longer have scales I will have to rely upon my clothes becoming looser to see the changes.

My next session is next Thursday and I can’t wait to see what happen after that. I do feel that maybe it’s beginning to work. I was satisfied after much less food last night, though due to swapping hand I was a bit mucky afterwards Wink and not having cravings once I was home was a real change for me as normally I pace the kitchen in search of food. I’ll see if these cravings stay at bay before I decide whether I think he’s had any affect. He didn’t talk about cravings (that I remember) but did talk about S and M foods which might be what could have triggered it.

Keep your fingers crossed for me! Big Grin

    That's ok Smiler

It is strange because I didn't feel like it had necessarily worked but I haven't had a craving since I saw him. Only time will tell!

Because he's asked me not to eat bread or wraps till I see him next I'm really not sure what I want for lunch now! Eeker Decisions.....decisions.

Let me know how you get on too. It will be good to compare our experiences. Smiler

Nina, sorry to go off track a bit, but did you have to have your gastric bypass done privately or on the NHS, if on the NHS how do you got about being referred. Thanks for your time.

    HI Willitracey

I had a gastric band done privately at BUPA. I discussed it with my doctor and was told they weren't carrying it out in Luton at the time as they had such a high demand. I then approached BUPA and was sent some forms and literature. I had to be referred to BUPA by my GP. It seems to be a postcode lottery. I fitted into the NICE guidelines for weightloss surgery but in Luton they've put the BMI up to something way above 40 now! Have a look at my gastric band post, the link is below. It might answer a few more of your questions. Smiler

    Hello all Smiler

I have been working to lose weight for the past year now. Things have been up and down with my diet - at times encouraging, discouraging at others. You all know what I am going through! Smiler Over the last year I have really tried to stay on the path - eating right, exercising religiously almost every day, and still I hit plateaus that I just don't understand how it can be scientifically possible!

I have never been one to use a diet pill. But then I found out about this all-natural supplement called "EXTREME LIFEFORCE" from Extreme Kinetic (http://www.extremekinetic.com). It is an all-natural supplement that contains no stimulants, and that helps in terms of burning stored body fat for those that have at least 15% body fat or more. It gives you extra energy, helps suppress your appetite and gives you the additional nutrients that your body might be lacking due to your diet.

The results I have seen while taking this product have been absolutely amazing! Even on days when I "slack off" a little bit or indulge, I still continue to see good results. This is something that I couldn't do before over the last year. One indulgence it seemed would put me 5 steps backwards!

You can check out the product at the following link:
    https://www.extremekineticonline.net/product_lifeforce.html

It is a very cost effective product - less than $20 a bottle, and they also offer free samples that you can request through their website.

I just received an email about a special offer they have for 30% OFF your order for new customers, so that is why I thought I would share this with you.

The coupon code for 30% OFF your order is AUG2008.

I HIGHLY recommend checking out this product! Like I said, it is simply an all-natural supplement, but it works wonders!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me....

    Good luck and Take Care!

    Hi Nina,

Just a quick note to see how you are doing 6 months down the road...did the hypnotherapy help with your weightloss?

I had my first session yesterday and afaik I will have 5 more sessions over the coming weeks. TBH I found the hypnosis part of the session a bit of a blur.....strange that!!! though some words keep coming back to me - healthy eating, fitness, good food, exercise, healthy....and funny enough I have been grand today, not a sign of a craving.

    Fingers crossed it will continue...

    take care
    Deem
