hi every one, my name is Sue I am 44, married with 4 children. my first granchild is due tomorrow. I have been over weight all my life, I have tried every diet going. My most successful diest was lighterlife. I lost 6 stone, I then put the lot back on and a extra 3 stone. Last November I weighed 20 stone, at 5" 3 I was so over weight I could not walk. I took the drastic desision to have a gastric band fitted. I made a appointment with a doctor. The doctor said that he did not think the band would work for me and that he thought the gastric bypass would be better. After a lot of thought I went in for the bypass two weeks later. I had the op on the Sat and was home on the Sunday. I have never looked back. My only regrett is that I did not do it years ago. I have lost over 7 stone, am now a 14 to 16 in clothes. I look and feel years younger. I would recomend this op to anybody. My whole out look on life has changed. I can and do now eat anything I fancy, I get full very quickly and having had the bypass only take in a portion of the calories I eat. Of course there is always a down side, I have to take vitamins daily for the rest of my life, but I think that it is a small price to pay. This op would not suit everyone, but for me it has been life changing.

Congratulations on the 7 stone loss. I read with interest the details of your gastric bypass operation and how it has affected your life, for the better.
It is not something I would rule out but I would worry about the risk of complications when I still have 3 children who depend on me.
I am currently between 3 and 4 stone overweight (12 stone 10 and 5ft 4) I lost 5 stone on CD and got below 8 stone to an unhealthy skinny size 6 and then bounced back again! I have done VLCD's on and off since 2004 and at the moment I dont regain all the weight before I set off on another one so my weight isnt increasing beyond its upper limit. (not yet anyway!!)
I tend to get angry with myself when my clothes feel tight and I resort to wearing old baggy stuff that makes me feel ugly and frumpy. This prompts me to get back on the VLCD wagon.
I may consider the surgery option later on down the line as this yo-yo pattern is probably very very bad for me.
Thanks for sharing your story Susie. My hairdreser has had a bypass and has lost the same amount of weight as you. She was 18 stones and had no trouble getting referred by her GP. I asked my GP when I was 20 stones 10lbs and he said "just go on a diet"!!!Like I haven't tried all my adult life!!!!! Depends on your GP I guess?
Glad it has worked so well for you-how lovely to be a size 14. Fantastic !
