Is it worth checking with a private GP to see if they charge less...or is this a private GP? Also some LLC's have an arrangement with a sympathetic GP, who does the tests for them for a nominal charge. My LLC had a GP who charged £25 for the medical tests and signed consent.

The nurse didn't have a clue about it so she went to talk to the receptionist and well as soon as LL was mentioned I saw her face change (like ouch this will cost her!) and she said that they consider it a Private appointment (seems they don't do medicals on the NHS???) and that my surgery won't consider anything less than a 20 minute full medical.
Which sucks frankly but there you go.
I left a message for my LLC to call me back but she's notorious bad at that (took me two weeks before I could even get my first consultation appt sorted!)
I don't know at this stage whether she knows of another GP who'll do the form cheaper...
*sigh*
I don't want to switch to CD because it's the CBT that I really want more than anything. At least to me, that seems key to my own relationship with food.
It's annoying though..I really was hoping to have started by the end of this week.

You have my sympathy, really you do, I know it must be so frustrating wanting to get going but having all these barriers put in your way. I was so glad to find LL that anything getting in my way would have been agony for me. Like you the therapy aspect was the clincher for me, and it really did help me out a lot. But the main thing was just taking food out of my life completely for 5 months...that was all I really needed to break the hold food had over me. I hope things do work out right in the end, keep us posted.

Aww thanks Vikki Smiler
It's not putting me off...trust me Wink
It's making me more determined than anything else.
I told my mum I was going to try it today (I live at home with my parents so i thought I am going to have to mention it at some point lol) She's overweight too so she knows how much i've struggled with my weight over the years and she was supportive (but had to give me that look that said I bet it doesn't work...ugh!)
I dunno...I've not been sleeping all that well and today has been a horrible day..I feel worn out and miserable tbh, but I'm NOT GIVING UP!!
No way!

Hi Ally

I am so sorry that you are having all these problems getting started.

I heard about LL early in December, but due to getting hold of the local LLC - then the Christmas holidays and what seemed like a dozen frustrating hold up's (appointments at our surgery are no easier come by than at yours - though the doctor was a bit more accomodating - to the point where she asked to be kept up to date on my progress as it might help other patients), I finally got started mid January.

All I can say is that it was SO worth it all. During the last few weeks I've been a bit shakey, thanks to holidays and other events throwing me a bit. My weight is coming down slower than before (but that is down to me, not the diet), but there are so many reasons for doing it all.

Big Grin On the plane going on holiday I was holding the arms of the seat and wriggling about - driving my husband crazy until eventually he asked "what IS the matter with you?" - I was just ecstatic because I wasn't jammed into the seat spilling over the sides and having the stewardess come up and offer me a belt extension.

Big Grin Then last Saturday in Marks and Spencer I was in Per Una (you know the place where I could never get anything to fit me before). I was dashing about with a silly grin on my face excitedly picking stuff off the rails (and mostly putting it back) but just knowing I could buy just about anything was such a kick.

Big Grin Or what about going into the changing room in another store with an armful of work suits - I had to ask the assistant to change them to smaller sizes as everything was way too big. She actually asked me (as she was pining the alterations to the SMALLER size) what on earth made me think I need the larger ones. I didn't say that the larger size is actually quite small to my way of thinking. YIPEE

Ally, chin up and stay committed. You will get knockers. To be honest I didn't tell many people but now I'm more forthcoming when they ask why I'm not eating lunch with them or whatever.

You probably won't be able to start this week if your appointment is on Thursday but talk to your LLC about it. Maybe send her an email via the LL website? Or call LL HQ for some advice.

If you can't start, low carb for a week...

It's worth the money. I know loads of people do well on CD but I am so glad I chose to do LL as I know I would have ditched CD by now if it wasn't for the commitment of turning up to group. I miss them during the week and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night and all of us getting our photos.

Hi guys Smiler

Thanks for all your support!

NelliDuff - Its gonna take time to get this sorted but I'm trying to cut out the carbs before I get started officially. Reading about your experience on the plane made me really smile cos I know I'll be the exact same way when I go to see my sister in Canada again.
For the last few visits I've dreaded the flight (not out of fear of flying but fear of getting stuck in the seat!) and last time I flew I paid for upgrades to business class so I could have a comfy seat each way. Can't afford to do that everytime either!
It got to the point that I would ask for the FAT belt before even being asked. Big Grin
Next time I shall fly economy and have room to spare! hehe

Sandra - I think I will email my LLC and see what she says but I think it's going to be the week after now..and in the grand scheme of things it's only a week or so longer. These things come to test us I suppose...I'm just not prepared to give up that easily WinkSmiler

Ooh photos? Do we get to see them?
Big Grin

Good luck with WI's this week my lovelies!!

Hi Ally,
Sorry to hear that your having a tough time getting started. I know how you feel, when you discover this diet you want to start it NOW.
I started a week after my intro meeting, and even that wasn't soon enough.
I've now been on it 16 days, in my 1st week I lost 7.5 lbs and last week I lost another 7lbs.
I'm thrilled with how this diet is working for me.
It won't be long now 'till you get started so hang in there. It's so worth it.

Thanks Lesley Smiler
I've run into a couple of hurdles but I'm sticking to this, not letting anything put me off. I can see by your results in a couple of weeks and by the other's who've got to the end of their LL journey that it's definately worth it.

YAY!!! *dances*

I can start LL this week after all! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I emailed my LLC and told her the sitch and she said I can come along to group tomorrow but I can't get the packs until after my medical on Thursday night. She said I can pop in straight after and she'll give me two weeks worth of packs so I can start before I go to Birmingham Big Grin

I'm so relieved!

just hope she takes a cheque...2 weeks money ...ouch! hehe

Ally,

I am really pleased for you at least you can get going on LL now. The sooner you start the sooner you can finish. I can understand the frustration you had - it's awful when you've syked your self up for something only for someone else to stall your plans. I'm sure you'll soon start to feel and see the benefits.

good luck.

But things are looking up now Smiler

Yay! I was hoping she might do that but I didn't dare suggest it was possible in case she said no.

It will be an expensive week for you with 2 weeks of packs plus a medical to pay for but it's all worth it in the end. My LLC takes cheques.
