I have "met" some wonderful people on other threads, and find their continuing support extremely valuable. However, I would like to start this thread for people who have a LOT of weight to lose, and have chosen the very low calorie diet (Lighter Life or Cambridge) to achieve this. People who really mean it this time. I am particularly interested in "meeting" people who have tried every other diet in the book, and yet find themselves as heavy, or heavier than they were when they first started. I am now 58 years old, and have lost 5, 6, and 7 stone several times in my life - I could paper a wall with before and after pictures! BUT I find myself heavier than ever, and now it is not just a matter of how |I look, but of enhancing my life expectancy and quality. I am finding the VLCD has given me hope to finally gain control. Any more like me out there? would love to exchange stories with you, and offer prolonged support on our VLCD journey. Ann
Added March 13th 2006...... We have a wonderfully supportive group on this thread now, and we have decided to call ourselves the "WeMITT's" (we mean it this time) We really understand the extra issues involved when weight makes everyday activities difficult. We now have a spreadsheet which is sent weekly to members, tracking our weight loss. If you need support, encouragement or information, we will try to help you. If WE can do it, YOU can do it!!! If you would like to e mail me direct - westhillsuk@gmail.com Ann [] Added March 30th 2006. The WeMITT's now have a website www.wemitt.com

Hi Ann, I am starting CD tomorrow and I have about 12 stones to lose, I have been fat all my adult life, I am now 48, and I don't want to be fat any longer. I have tried every diet under the sun and must have lost in totoal about 300 stones and put it all back and more. I believe that VLCD's work if you stick with the abstinence and you have lots of support from this forum.
I want to be thin going into my 50's.
So I would love to be part of this thread, thanks for starting it.

I have been overweight all my life, more so since I left school and had my own money. I started LL November 2004 and weighed in at 24st, I needed to lose 12 1/2 - 13st, with doing LL/CD on and off I have lost 6 - 7 st (Can't seem to get past the 7st mark). I have tried WW, SW, Laxatives, Adios, Starvation, Slim Fast to name a few.
I think most of us on here have tried most diets and they haven't worked for us or not long enough to lose all ou excess weight.
Good Luck and keep posting Mel

Thanks you all so much for your postings. It IS a different journey when you have a lot of weight to lose. I started Lighter Life on January 5th (there is a separate thread for this, which is extremely supportive) I lost 10lbs the first week, 4 1/2 lbs the second, and it is my third weigh in on Wednesday. I believe this is the way I can lose the weight (again) and that a very low calorie management plan (Lighter Life or Cambridge) will be the best hope I have of keeping it off. I have been in some very black places in the past few years, due to both my weight, and other issues, and I finally feel able to embark on a journey to an easier, more joyful, life. Shazza - I don't know about any meet up, and I'm still very reluctant to go to social occasions (I bet I'm not alone there!!) Could you tell me about it? Keep posting each and every one of you. The journey will be long, but no longer than a year I shouldn't think, if we all stick to the programme, and support eachother. Ann x

That's great brunetandred. I wasn't brave enough to know my weight ( stil in denial?) but I know I am about the same as you, just from my clothes. Nice to have company! I will look every day. Ann x

Hi Shelley, Welcome. LL = Lighter Life, the programme I am on. C = Cambridge, the name of the other very low calorie diet available. This is the first time I have tried this approach to losing weight, and for the first time in years I feel I can do it. The wonderful thing is the weight comes off fast. Check Lighter Life out on the web, find a counsellor and go and see her. If you feel you don't need the counselling element of LL, then Cambridge is cheaper. (LL is 66 per week, but you'd be surprised how much you save on food and drink when you are on it) You don't eat ordinary food, just the shakes, soups and bars provided. I'm not here to sell it to you, but do a bit of research (there are a lot of people writing on here) and join us if you want to. My own diary is on a separate thread. Ann x

Hi Guys, I had around 11 stone to lose last May and guess what? I have less than a stone to go!! To date I have lost 10st 4lbs on LL and CD This diet is a godsend to those of us who have tried it all and who have a large amount of weight to lose. I have NEVER been thin, This is the smallest I have ever been and I am 41 years old. Before this the smallest size I'd got to was an 18. I have tried ALL the usual suspects and I lost, but then it all went back on and then some [][]
So PLEASE stick to it folks, you have no idea how fantastic it is to finally be a size 12, something I'd never dared dream about before. This diet has changed my life. I look tons better, I dress much better my attitude and confidence are fantastic and no one recognises me any more!! Keep posting on the forum, I have a diary on here which keeps me (almost) sane and the support is fantastic - I promise you you'll never look back []
Stay Strong

Westhill the meet up is in henry's bar on Feb 18th Piccadily circus -I will bump up the thread so you can have a read.
no what you mean about social occasions - however there will be people there that have completed the journey, starting, or in the middle - some smaller than you , some bigger than you. But most of all they will all know about the VLCD journey - you will get lots of tips, motivation and inspiration.
take care
this is your first time on a VLCD and the best advice i can give you - is never let your guard down - hopefully you are coming up to place where this has become a habit and is getting easier - this diet is no joke the second/third time round so please stick to the plan till your goal. learn from my mistake.

Thanks for the advice Shazza. I never thought there would be a diet I hadn't been on before, so a "first time" is rather a novelty for me! I'm looking at is as a "road to Slimland", with no turnings off, and no lay bys. If, for some reason I have to stop for a short while, I shan't beat myself up or get off the road, I shall get going again as soon as I can. That's the plan anyway. I'm usually quite determined once I've made my mind up to diet, it's keeping the weight off I have ALWAYS failed at. I read of people being upset when they can't fit into a size 10/12/14/16 - with me getting upset is when aircraft seats and theatre seats don't fit. Barbecues are another nightmare, there's no way I could sit on an "ordinary" plastic chair. But next summer.......... Keep in touch, this really helps. Ann x

Hi there Westhills and all who are embarking upon the VLCD journey and looking to this thread for support. I started with 10 1/2 stone to lose. Originally I went with LL on the 2nd of Oct but changed to CD in December and so far I have lost 4stone and 5 pounds. I am very proud of myself but have found that at this time it is most difficult I have the sheer elation of having lost so much but the road ahead is still long as I still have about 6 stone to lose. So I have to keep my chin up and remember that a blip is just that and that I can do this. So let us help eachother! Best of luck to all of you whether or not you are a newbie or s struggler. x
