Howdy folks[8D] I lost two and a half stone on LL this year but I'm panicking as half a stone has crept back on[:I]. I have a slinky little black number that I have to squeeze into in two weeks time and a whole new wardrobe of size 10/12 goodies. So regaining any more weight is simply NOT an option. So I am considering a variety of tactics and methods. a) A week of leftover LL packs b) Exploring Lipotrim c) GI diet
I'm thinking option c) is the sensible one but not sure how easy it is to follow when I have a very busy lifestyle.
So I'd love some advice from anyone who is following a GI plan, ie how easy is it, what's the best book/guide to use, can yo recommend any good websites etc.
Cheers guys[8D]

Hi there, I have not done GI myself but a friend at work was looking at it. She got a kind of mini book from Tesco's and also told me that they GI label their food. I hope that is of use.

I'm following the GI plan to maintain my weight loss having lost 100lbs on LL, so I know where you're at!
I recommend, available from Amazon or Smiths, etc, a GI book by Helen Foster and any of the books by Rick Gallop, who is the "Godfather" of the GI way in terms of popularising it. His pocket sized "Shopping and Eating Out Guide" is never out of my handbag and makes it really easy to make good choices in restaurants.
(NEVER EVER eat Chinese food though - OMG, impossible to get anything appropriate in there!)
I gained my weight through eating out and am more than terrified that I'll re-gain again for the same reasons (as it's a big part of my job) but I seem to be doing OK so far and am making a very conscious effort to make green GI choices 99% of the time.
Thanks for your replies girls, I shall explore all your recommendations! Cleo, IKWYM about foodpacks, having just decided to return to them for a week, I'm so missing my food! I've just done day 1 and I'm not sure it's a wise move. I just need to recapture that feeling of success. Have you maintained your fabulous loss by following the GI? Have to managed to lose any more? Off to check out Amazon and those websites, cheerio for now.[8D]
Feeling quite inspired to do this now that I've done some research. Has anyone used Tesco/e-diets to follow the GI plan? I like the idea of my menus and shopping lists being prepared for me.[]
Yes, I've maintained my losses to date and no, I haven't lost any more but then, TBH, I wasn't trying to.
The Helen Foster book offers 4 different eating plans with GI recipes, and I'm (roughly) sticking to the "GI for Life" version, rather than the "GI for Weight Loss" option.
It's also so helpful that Tescos and certain manufacturers are now labelling their products as low or medium GI, it makes supermarket shopping much easier.
Good luck!

Thanks Cleo, I think I'll go and have a mooch around my nearest big Tesco tomorrow after work. I'm on day 2 of my temporary return to abstinence at the moment, but seriously considering a carb free meal now, starving! Well done on maintaining your weight, do you have any before and after photos? I bet you are barely recognisable now.[]
Oh ******, just lost my entire message and had to start again.[!] Sorry Cleo, but couldn't see your pics, I got a page of writing telling me I hadn't logged in and something about cookies. Beyond me and beyond my poor old PC I think, so I will have to visualise how fantastic you look instead. Pigged out a bit at tea-time, back on board tomorrow until I can get this GI thing sussed. I'll catch up with you later, night night.[]
Booby - I've been following the GI way of eating for over a year now, since coming off LL, and in that time I have lost another stone. The plan is not difficult to follow and as long as you think what foods and in what quantities you're eating together then you should be ok.
The plan pretty much keeps a check on your blood sugar levels and prevents the peeks and troughs that you get when snacking on crisps/chocolate/biscuits etc. and stops those cravings for more.
As a quick example of some 'normal' food... jacket potatoes are really not that good for you at all as they are pure starchy carbs... your body can absorb them very quickly and your blood sugar levels will rise. This will kick in your insulin production which will make it fall quickly, you will then hit a trough where your blood sugar levels are low and you will start to crave sugary/highly processed type foods and the vicious circle begins again. However, if you have a small potato and a salad with it, that brings the meal into a healthy balance - potatoes/rice/pasta can be 'red' foods whereas salads tend to be 'green' foods.... mixing reds with greens produces 'yellow' which is ok... although the 'green' foods are the way to go as these are the ones that your body can't instantly process and as they are processed that much more slowly, your blood sugar levels remain constant...
Phew... hope you understood that!!

Thanks Mandi, I think I understand all that! Not sure whether to buy a couple of books and try to work it out myself, or to sign up for Tesco e-diets. They will apparently work out my shopping list for me as well as my weekly eating plan, all for 2.99 a week. Do you have any experience of them? Did you go straight onto GI from LL? I've fannied around since stopping LL, still needed to lose about half a stone and now I've gained another half, so experiencing the old feelings of failure and that's just not welcome![:I] Appreciate you support, may have to pop in on your thread. Haven't heard from Diane for a while, hope she's ok.
The Tesco service sounds v. good, from what you've said.
This is what I ate yesterday:
Breakfast:
2 pears Shape yoghurt
Lunch:
Tesco char grilled chicken Mixed leaves
Dinner:
Roast chicken (no skin) [I forgot about this scheduled dinner when planning my lunch!] Spinach Swede and carrot, mashed with fat free fromage frais and grainy mustard Another yoghurt 2 low GI oaty cookies (made by Nairns)

Wow Cleo, you look absolutely amazing! Although I have to say you still looked pretty good pre-LL![] I bought Rick Gallop's original GI book today from Tesco today, so going to curl up on the sofa and take it all in. I had two foodpacks today and then had a GI-ish meal when I got in from work; turkey rashers, salad, mixed beans, cottage cheese, slice of wholemeal with humous, all followed by a diet yoghurt. Hope to start properly tomorrow, wish me luck. Can we have Oats-so-simple or does it have to be real porridge? Not keen on porridge[:I]
